ABOUT THE FRANKLIN GENERALS...
"Football is not
a game but a religion, a metaphysical island of fundamental truth in a highly
verbalized, disguised society, a throwback of 30,000 generations of
anthropological time."
- Arnold Mandell

The
Franklin Generals
are a full-contact amateur team in the Middle Tennessee Football League (MTFL).
It is 11-man football and is officiated according to TSSAA rules. The MTFL
season usually begins in January/February and ends in March/April. For more league information, please
visit
the official MTFL League website.
The "Generals" mascot name is in honor of the 12 Generals that lost their lives
in the Battle of Franklin on November 30th, 1864. We want to honor all those
that have paid sacrifices in securing and preserving our freedom. We live in
the most blessed country on God’s earth in which the greatest game on earth was
invented. Thanks to the “father of football”, Walter Camp, for his innovative
adaptations to the game of rugby, and to President “Teddy” Roosevelt for saving
the game of football by summoning the universities to found the NCAA in 1906,
lest generations would have missed out on the opportunity to build character,
physical and mental toughness, and teamwork in a way that only the game of
football can provide. Richard Whittingham, the author of the Story of
College Football, wrote, “The game itself – violent, tactical, demanding
of skills, strength, and endurance – evokes the very essentials of a classical
drama: conflict, suspense, excitement, competition, triumph, and failure”.
As Heywood Hale Broun (legendary CBS Sports Commentator) once put it, "Football is, after all, a wonderful way to get rid of your aggressions without going to jail for it." Equally important, it is a game in which you absolutely have to rely on your gridiron brothers to achieve success. Every player must pull his weight. This is what the Franklin Generals football organization is all about.
The Generals are excited about pursuing the MTFL title, and are always making huge strides in the right direction. Together, with one equal temper and a fused combatant energy, we are working as one team to accomplish feats that will result in championships. We are always recruiting Tennessee for experienced players who still have fuel for competition. We welcome anyone with a head to hit, a heart to bleed, and a will to win. The Generals do have several MTFL veterans on board, and we are very excited about some of our new players. As playing football "for the mere passion of it" is not cheap, the Generals are always looking for sponsors.
All practices are held at Ensworth High School and occasionally at D1 Sports Training facility in Cool Springs. The practice season usually runs from October to January.
Come check us out as we prepare for and pursue our goal - a championship achieved through discipline and a commitment to excellence.

We would like to thank all of our current players, our wives and families, and our sponsors for their generous support of our endeavors, and most importantly, Glory to God for giving us the opportunity. No success is achieved without Him.
Sincerely,
Joel Moenkhoff, President/Head Coach
