In 1895 after Georgia beat Yale 12-0 in the humidity, marking the first Southern victory
over a northern power, New York Sun reporter George Trevor wrote: 

"Football provides an escape valve for that adventurous urge; that rigid emotional intensity, which despite an outward appearance of self-control is the heritage of every son of Dixie.  Northerners may have originated the American version of rugby, but the game is in the blood down here in the Deep South, and they play it for blood."
